FIND_COLUMN_INDEX

Returns, within a range or an array, the index number of the column which contains the column header (or value) specified.

Syntax

FIND_COLUMN_INDEX(data_input, search_string, row_index)

data_input can either be a range or an array. This is the range or the array to consider.
search_string the string to search for
row_index Optional. An integer value which is the row number of the row from which the search_string is looked up. Default is 1, if omitted.

Example

Consider range A1:D5 as shown below:

FIND_COLUMN_INDEX(A1:A5,”Orange”) returns 3
FIND_COLUMN_INDEX(A1:A5,”599”,3) returns 2
